“Seamus is something of a musical wizard - Mixing his influences from his Irish Roots, Acoustic folk and Americana, he has cemented himself as a key player here in the music scene”
— Cornish Gig Guide
Solo artist Séamus McKenna has over a decades experience in writing, recording and performing. Mixing influences from his Irish Roots, Acoustic folk and Americana Séamus has an unique yet familiar sound. Racking up an average of 150+ Gigs a year, Seamus is no stranger to a crowd.
In 2024 Seamus moved from the North of England to Cornwall in search of inspiration. His time in the ancient county has provided him with a wealth of local musicians to collaborate with. He is currently curating a series of events called "Get Folk'd!" Promoting local artists and helping support the grassroots music scene. He is also working on a number of collaborative songs with other artists in the area.
Séamus has a BA Hons in Songwriting and Musical Composition and has released a number of his own recordings including 2022's single Man on the Moon and his debut album named after its title track Take Me To The Mountains featured on BBC Merseyside & BBC Radio 6 Music. In 2024 Seamus released Calling To You which was well received and also picked up by BBC Introducing South West. 2025 saw the release of "By The Wind Sailor" and a collaboration with Cornwall based Cellist Paddy Mitton (Swallows and Crows) to record and release a live version of legendary Irish song "The Parting Glass".
Seamus has hit the ground running in 2025 working on a huge collaboration of songs, festivals and events. Highlights of the year include performing at Paradhis festival (mains stage), St Ives Arts Club, The Poly Theatre Falmouth, Newquay Food Festival, Porthleven Food Festival, Penzance Food Festival, Dart Music Fest (main stage), The Cornish Bank, The Fish Factory, The KCM, Falmouth Pavillions and many many more.
Séamus is now based in Porthleven, Cornwall and continues to build a following through regular touring, festivals and local shows and working with the artists community to continue to create a better environment for artists to flourish in.

In 2024 Seamus set up his own promotions company - "Get Folk'd!" in response to the decrease in opportunities for local grassroots artists to perform ticketed events - "There are too many incredible musicians out there who don't have enough opportunities to play proper shows, instead they find themselves stuck in the corner of a pub, mostly ignored, whilst the football plays in the background". Get Folk'd was set up to counter this and provide artists the stage and audience they deserve. So far they have been a huge success collaborating with renowned grassroots venues such as The Cornish Bank, The Fish Factory, Shoals Brewery, Carnglaze caverns and many more. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Get Folk'd Event!
Get Folk'd! Is coming the The Acorn Theatre, Penzance! We are hosting a "Pay what you can" show ranging from £8 - £16.
Get Folk’d! Values its local scene immensely; Music, art and culture should always be built from the ground up wherever possible. Music venues in the UK are facing a crisis as it the grassroots music scene as a whole. Get Folk’d! Is running this event specifically to help raise funds for the Acorn theatre who work tirelessly to ensure that Penzance has a stage for musicians and creatives to perform on – it is a key venue in the west of Cornwall.
